I have a system where 2 servers need to poll data on the same serial port over Ethernet. I can get one server to connect, but the second server can't connect. I do have a method to only have one server at a time request the data. It appears once the first server makes the connection and the request has been stopped the second server can't open the port.

Hi jhile1956,

Yes, you are correct. Once the serial port is open via com port or socket, anything else attempting to use that port will be locked out. Only one thing can use a serial port at a time.

It is possible for more than one serial port to transmit the same data by using UDP.
It's a little tricky to setup, but here are some examples that might give you an idea if this will work in your situation:

I hope that helps,
